McPherson’s eighth-grade girls rode a 21-point outburst by Cassie Cooks on Thursday to handle Salina Lakewood, 41-27.
Cooks was augmented by Andrea Sweat, who added eight points.
The B-team played great defense in a 24-9 victory. Rachel Carlson led the way with eight points.
Both teams are now 6-1.
“Both teams came out and played with good energy and we shared the ball well, which were two things that we said we needed to improve on after our first half of our season,” MMS coach Jay Crawford said. “We are a much better team when we move the ball and trust each other. We made plays for each other and that's the way I like to see us play.”
MMS plays Monday at Salina South.
