SALINA — McPherson’s seventh-grade A-boys had their five-game winning streak snapped on Thursday by Salina Lakewood, which came away with a 36-28 victory.
Max Alexander scored 14 points for the Bullpups, now 5-2. They had not lost since the opening night of the season.
“We were not good tonight,” MMS coach Tim Hein said simply. “We looked like a team that has been on a Christmas break. Of course we had been. Though we struggled to make shots, we still could have had a better defensive effort. They out-sized us at every position, but we can’t use that as an excuse. We will get that corrected, shake the rust off and be ready to go again Monday.”
The B-team salvaged the split, 32-22, to also move to 5-2. Logan Ediger’s seven points were tops.
“This B-Team continues to get better week in and week out,” Hein said. “They work extremely hard in practice and it is now paying off.”
MMS is home Monday to play Salina South.
