The 1-2 punch of Carl Frazier and Talin Goebel delivered a 1-2 knockout blow to Andale on Friday as the McPherson High boys bowling team opened its season with a narrow victory at Starlite Lanes.
The Bullpups totaled 2,469 to 2,316 for Andale.
Frazier had a 665 series, while Goebel was right behind with 652. Also contributing to the victory were Jeff Reed (565), Clayton Ouellette (551), Matthew Stiggins (538) and KC Becker (503).
Frazier had games of 232, 228 and 205, while Goebel had 216-201-235.
The MHS girls also got off on the right foot with a 1,936-1,660 victory behind Alexis Kieffer, who had a 509. Her high game was 191.
Other MHS scores were Ashley LaSalle (496), Anna Young (476), Bailey Holton (451), Brooke Miler (366) and Maysan Groote (293).
“We got away with a win on both sides,” MHS coach Herb Halinski said. “First meet we were a little jittery. All in all in was a good day, still missed too many spares, but I am pleased with everything. None of the kids gave up and were supportive of each other.”
MHS’ boys won their JV meet by just 50, 1,885-1,835. Sean Birzer was the top Bullpup with 507, while other scores were Austin Stiggins (487), Mathew Gesaman (470), Michael Polasek (391), Devin Hartley (376) and Trey Hett (362).
Andale did not have enough girls bowlers for a JV team. For MHS, scores were Amanda Miller (421), Kalynn Chick (352), Randie Baker (250), Caitlyn Fortner (226) and Kimiko Bullis (219).
MHS is right back in action today competing in the 26-team Wichita Carroll Invitational.
