LYONS — The Smoky Valley girls are back to .500.
With a 36-33 win over Lyons on Friday, the Vikings are now 3-3 on the year after completing a 2-0 week.
It was a tight game throughout, according to coach John Bellah, who lauded the play of Bailey Bolden, who led the Vikes with 10 points. Bolden has been plagued each of the last two years by injuries, Bellah said, but appears to be returning to the promising form she showed as a freshman.
Katie Bellah chipped in with eight points for the Vikings, who received seven rebounds from Maggie Lambert.
• LYONS BOYS 43, SMOKY VALLEY 40 — The Lions hit some late clutch free throws to deal the Vikings another close loss.
Smoky Valley went most of the game without leading scorer Nick Reinert, who suffered a head injury early on that required him to get five stitches. He returned to the game for the final few minutes.
When Reinert was on the floor, the Vikings had started fast with an 11-4 lead and still were up 19-16 at the half.
In his stead, Jarod Meier had a nice game with 12 points.
