WICHITA — McPherson High’s bowling teams competed in the 26-team Bishop Carroll “Baker Format” Tournament on Saturday.

This tournament is unlike others as competitors just don’t bowl a three-game series, but take turns bowling in frame blocks, which stresses teamwork.

The MHS girls took 10th place and the boys were 15th. Bishop Carroll was the champion on the girls’ side, while Garden City was the boys’ winner. The majority of the teams were Class 6A and 5A.

The girls had a 1,709 total, while the boys were at 2,275.

“The day was rough for both teams,” MHS coach Herb Halinski said. “There was a lot of nerves on both the boys and the girls and just had too many open frames. Every time the teams got going, an open frame popped up and stalled anything that was going. On the bright side the team was very supportive of each other and wouldn't let anybody get down. Team chemistry was really good today.”

The Bullpups compete Tuesday at Wichita Collegiate.
