A discussion over annual expenses led to the McPherson City Commission taking a hard look at the timing of the requests in light of continuing concerns over budget funding.
The discussion broke out during a study session with Public Lands and Facilities Director Wayne Burns, who was bringing a number of annual requests before the board. Mayor Tom Brown questioned whether these absolutely had to be done in January, at the start of the budget year, or if they could be done closer to when the planned work would be done.
“My problem is that we have a list of twelve items that we're going to approve for the whole year,” Brown said. “If we do all this, we're stuck with this even if we say, 'Wow, maybe we can't afford to do this.”
Brown recommended bringing items of an immediate nature before the commission in the future, to which commissioners Larry Weins and Bob Moore offered their consent, as well.
