McPherson’s seventh-grade boys bounced back strong here Monday for a 45-39 victory over Salina South.
MMS, which had its five-game winning streak snapped the last time out, received a 19-point performance from Jayton Alexander and 11 from Eli Pyle.
“We were very good tonight,” MMS coach Tim Hein said. “What a difference from Thursday. Max Alexander was masterful getting everyone involved. EJ Hein was the leading rebounder. Jayton Alexander had five 3-pointers on the night – including two big ones to put South away late in the fourth. We were efficient in all four quarters. Our willingness to share the ball and our commitment to team defense was the difference in our performance tonight. I couldn’t be more proud of them. We beat a better team tonight than beat us last Thursday.”
The B-team, behind seven points by Brennan Gipson, stifled South for a 22-15 triumph. Zac Butler and Adam Elliott added five points.
“This game looked very similar to the first game of the night,” Hein said. “Ball sharing and team defense led the way. We took the lead early in the game and never relinquished it. Gipson made three big baskets in the fourth, including a 3-pointer, to secure the win.”
Both MMS teams are now 6-2 and play Thursday at Newton.
