WICHITA — McPherson High’s first road bowling dual of the year resulted in a sweep for the Bullpups on Tuesday.
The Bullpup boys came away with a 2,203-1,947 triumph over Wichita Collegiate behind Carl Frazier and Jeff Reed.
Frazier had a 585 series, including games of 202 and 201. Reed’s 573 was highlighted by a 238 game.
Other MHS scores were Clayton Ouellette (539), KC Becker (499), Matthew Stiggins (428) and Talin Goebel (409).
The JV boys also won, 1,822-1,434.
Kolton Lare was tops with a 480. Other scores were Austin Stiggins (472), Sam Birzer (438), Micahel Polasek (421), Mathew Gesaman (363) and Tyler Horner (337).
The Bullpup girls cruised to a 1,798-1,192 victory as Alexis Kieffer led the way with a 486, with a 186 high game.
Other MHS scores were Ashley LaSalle (450), Anna Young (442), Bailey Holton (420), Amanda Miller (332) and Brooke Miller (326).
Collegiate didn’t have a girls JV team, but the MHS bowlers still competed. Maysan Groote led the Bullpups with a 344, while other scores were Kaylnn Chick (313), Randie Baker (232), Caitlyn Fortner (211) and Kimiko Bullis (181).
MHS coach Herb Halinski said it was a mixed-bag type of day.
“It was a rather interesting day,” he said. “There were so many ups and downs. The kids made great shots at times, but then a bad break happened and the wheels just seemed to fall off any momentum that was happening. Everyone seemed to lose focus more easily today and scores were low because of that. There usually is a letdown after bowling a Baker tournament because teamwork is so stressed in the Baker format. We will be working on that.”
The Bullpups return to the friendly Starlite Lanes confines on Friday to take on Augusta. Match time is 3 p.m.
