Hesston cagers split with Kingman

KINGMAN — Hesston’s boys, who are ascending up the Class 3A basketball poll, added to their resume on Tuesday by coasting to a 62-36 rout of Kingman.

Hesston set the tone with 22 first-quarter points and led 34-21 at the half.

Zach Esau’s 17 points led the Swathers and Scott Duerksen chipped in with 15. The Eagles scored more than 11 points in just one quarter.

• KINGMAN GIRLS 53, HESSTON 52 — Kingman led nearly the entire way to complete the season sweep of defending state champion Hesston.

The Eagles were up 17-15 after a quarter, 32-26 at the half and 40-36 after three quarters.

Cami Richardson scored 23 points for the Swathers, which came in the first three quarters. Kylie Brenneman also was in double figures with 10.

Sophomore Bailey Bangert was the difference in the game with 28 points. She had 16 points in the first quarter, including four 3-pointers. She completed the game with seven treys.
