It was a pair of easy wins on Thursday for the McPherson eighth-grade girls.

The A-team blew out Newton 52-7 behind 21 points by Andrea Sweat, 12 by Lakyn Schieferecke and 11 by Cassie Cooks.

The B-team brought out the defensive dragnet for a 24-9 success. Rachel Carlson’s eight points led the way.

“I was so proud of our energy and effort,” MMS coach Jay Crawford said. “Both teams came out and played very well, which got us off to a good start. When we share the ball and play  as a team, then we look good. We shot the ball well and we have been waiting on an offensive game like this. Its nice to see the ball go through the net.”

Both MMS teams are now 8-1. The Bullpups host Derby on Thursday.

MMS A (52) — Pham 2, Johnson 2, Mayfield 4, Cooks 11, Schieferecke 12, Sweat 21.

MMS B (24) — Schieferecke 2, Cecenas 2, Hedlund 2, Collins 3, Tice 5, Carlson 8, Pham 2.
