PEABODY — Elyria Christian School’s girls overwhelmed Peabody 50-29 tonight as they outscored the Warriors 27-13 in the second half to pull away.
Rachel Adamyk fired in 21 points to lead the red-hot Eagles, while Bailey Unruh and Morain Redenbaugh tallied 11 apiece. Unruh also came up with six steals and the Eagles as a team had 19.
“We had another fairly solid defensive game tonight,” ECS coach Greg Fields said. “Most of our girls are getting better at recognizing the passing lanes and getting more aggressive at stepping in front of passes. Bailey Unruh was fantastic tonight at denying passes and getting transition points under pressure. Rachel was once again active all over the court tonight. She is scoring and then coming down and blocking shots on the other end. Moriah Redenbaugh was once again a leader on defense. Anytime she can get into double digits offensively, I know it's going to be a good night.”
Elyria’s boys made it a clean sweep, 61-40. The Eagles shot out to a 31-20 halftime lead and later outscored the Warriors 18-9 in the final period.
Aidan Fields drained 18 points, while Jaden Starburg and Tyler Thiessen added 15 apiece.
“Our boys came out with lots of energy, building a lead of 15 late in the first half,” ECS coach Ben Starburg said. “We used pressure to speed up the game and force turnovers. Aidan, Jaden and Tyler had nice nights from the field and our bench players, especially Kobe Neufeldt and Seth Prieb, came in and gave us great defensive energy.”
