Central cagers explode for sweep

JOPLIN, Mo. — The only race Monday night was whether or not the Central Christian College men could score as many points as their women against Ozark Christian College.

The Lady Tigers set the bar too high, as they roared to a 107-74 victory, while the Central men were a 96-59 winner.

In the women’s game, Central’s helter-skelter pace produced 81 shots and they made a whopping 17 3-pointers.

Thirteen Lady Tigers broke into the scoring column, led by Molly Young’s 18 points, which came on 6-of-7 shooting from 3-point. Heather Crittenden scored 17, Ashlyn Garza 12 (on four trey) and Abbie Banks added 11, along with six rebounds and five assists.

The Lady Tigers, now 6-12, host Union College on Thursday. Game time is 6 p.m.

The Tiger men started slow, shooting just 39 percent in the first half to lead 40-22, but lit it up for 54 percent in the second half to score 56 points.

Alonzo Stafford had a monster game with 23 points and 18 rebounds. Michael Gholston added 18 points, Ernest Burton provided 15 off the bench and Sam Clayborn scored 10.

The victory improved the Tigers to 13-3.

The Central men play at Northern New Mexico on Friday.
