DERBY — It was a tough day Thursday for McPherson’s seventh-grade boys as they dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Derby.
The A-team lost 49-42 despite 18 points by Max Alexander.
“Though we lost tonight, we actually played pretty well,” MMS coach Tim Hein said. “Max Alexander and EJ Hein helped us set a good tempo to the game in the first half. Our defensive effort was much improved. Unfortunately halftime came and stopped our momentum. It took us too long to regain our rhythm in the third quarter as we gave up 18 points that quarter.”
The B-team was outlasted, 30-25. Adam Elliott’s nine points were tops.
“We got off to a tremendous start to the B-game,” Hein said. “Elliott really had the hot hand. We put up 13 points in the first quarter. Unfortunately we cooled off after that and struggled to put the ball in the hole. Dylan Forkell and Quincy Gerbrandt were monsters on the offensive boards tonight giving us multiple second-chance shots.”
The Bullpups are home Monday to play Andover. Both teams are 6-4.
