HALSTEAD — Class 2A Moundridge had the Rose Hill boys on the ropes Thursday in the consolation bracket of the Adolph Rupp Classic, but couldn’t provide the knockout blow.
Up 34-28 after three quarters, the Wildcats went dormant in the final period to lose a 39-38 decision to the Class 4A Rockets.
“Disappointing loss tonight,” Wildcat coach Vance Unrau said. “We led most of the way, but couldn't get shots to fall at the end. Foul trouble put (Anthony) Otte and (Noah) Eichelberger on the bench in the second quarter. Untimely turnovers and not getting our share of the 50-50 balls is very frustrating. I want this team to embrace an attitude of grit and mental toughness that isn't present at all times. We are in a salvage-a win-mode in the tournament and need to find a way to get it done.”
Eichelberger scored 13 points, making 3 of 5 from 3-point. Otte added 10. Parker Austin’s 20 points topped Rose Hill.
The Wildcats play in Saturday’s 2 p.m. seventh-place game.
