CANTON — Canton-Galva’s boys will play for the championship of their own tournament tonight after surviving a double-overtime dilly with Ell-Saline on Friday.
The Eagles had to come back from four down at the start of the fourth quarter and still trailed by nine with 2:36 remaining. Ethan Dailey’s 3-point shooting helped the Eagles storm back to get the game into OT
Reed Wiens hit a 3-pointer at the first-overtime buzzer for C-G to force a second OT. Ethan Loyd came up big with at the foul line in the second OT with a pair of free throws.
Travis Unruh scored 16 points, Dailey added 11 and Zach Snow scored 10. Unruh also yanked down six rebounds.
“*Extremely proud of the resilience the boys showed tonight,” C-G coach Shane Duncan said. “We made some timely shots to get this win.”
The Eagles haven’t won the tourney for a while and Duncan said his team can’t wait for the chance.
“We're excited to get an opportunity to play in the championship game,” he said. “Hopefully we can ride this momentum into tomorrow's (Saturday) game. Sedgwick is a heck of a team, but we are ready for the challenge.”
Duncan said a key was the play of Dailey, as Ell-Saline was packing it in with a 2-3 zone. He also lauded Wiens, who had struggled earlier in the game but stepped up when it mattered most.
Tonight’s game should start somewhere around 7:30.
