Hesston girls 1st; boys 2nd at Hillsboro

HILLSBORO — The Hesston girls are the champions of the Hillsboro Trojan Classic.

The Swathers secured the title on Saturday with a 41-33 victory over Clay Center in a defensive battle.

Hesston stifled the Tigers in the first quarter by holding them to three points. However, Clay Center never went away until the fourth quarter, when the Swathers used a 16-9 advantage to pull away after leading by a point after three quarters.

Cami Richardson led Hesston with 16 points and Kailey Jo Ince added 10.

• HOLCOMB BOYS 67, HESSTON 57 — The Swathers came up short in their bid for a Hesston sweep of the titles.

Zach Vogt scored 20 points and Scott Duerksen added 17 for the Swathers, but it wasn’t enough.
