McPherson High senior Ashlee May committed to Friends University during a signing ceremony Monday in the MHS Little Theatre attended by family and friends.

May will be attending the KCAC school in Wichita for vocal music and drama.

She is a four-year member of the MHS choir and has also been in Advanced Acting.

“They have a beautiful campus first of all,” May said as one of her top reasons for choosing Friends. “I have a lot of friends who go there and they’re part of the Christian Spiritual Formation program, which is something I was initially drawn to. So after a few visits and few overnighters, I decided Friends was the place.”

May is hoping to be a part of the famed “Singing Quakers.”

“They’re amazing,” she said, noting the “Singing Quakers” are the equivalent of mixed esemble at MHS. “Even their open enrollment choir is fantastic.”

May will be part of a relatively new drama program at Friends.

“It just started a couple of years ago. As a new program there will be a lot of opportunities for me as an underclassmen, which I’m really looking forward to,” she said.

May also participated in softball during her McPherson High career.
