McPherson High’s boys have ascended to the No. 1 spot in Class 4A Division I as weekly rankings have been announced today by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association.
The Bullpups, who defeated Class 6A Lawrence Free State in the finals of their tournament on Saturday, replace Basehor-Linwood, which lost its first game of the season this past week to Blue Valley.
The two teams swapped places. Rounding out the Top 5 are Paola, Andale (MHS’ opponent here Tuesday) and Wamego.
Abilene is No. 6, followed by Hays, Miege, Buhler and Eudora.
Lawrence Free State, by the way, is No. 6 in 6A this week.
McPherson’s girls, who open Mid America Classic play on Thursday, are still No. 2 in Class 4A Division I as Miege continues its stranglehold on the top spot.
Wellington, Kansas City Piper and Paola complete the Top 5. Labette County is No. 6, with the rest of the order including Chanute, Andover Central, Abilene and Circle.
Hesston’s boys, who took second in the Hillsboro Trojan Classic, are No. 4 in Class 3A, trailing Osage City, Sabetha and Royal Valley. The Swathers’ loss came to Holcomb, which is ranked No. 1 in Class 4A Division II.
Hesston’s girls are back in the 3A poll at No. 10 after winning the Hillsboro Classic.
Meanwhile, the Moundridge girls are No. 5 in Class 2A. There’s a chance they could play No. 1 Central Plains this week in the Hilltop Classic in Great Bend.
