McPherson College’s Bailey Brown was named today as the KCAC’s Defensive Player of the Week.
The 5-4 senior from Glen Elder, who prepped at Beloit High School, was an important cog in the Bulldogs winning both of their KCAC games last week to climb into a tie for fourth place in the standings.
Brown averaged 4 rebounds and 2.5 steals to key a Mac defense that gave up only 56.5 points in two games. Mac also permitted Bethel and Ottawa to just 35 percent shooting, 27.6 from beyond the arc. Brown locked down on Bethel star Lauren Ulrich, holding her to 12 points.
That Mac defense will be put to the test here Wednesday when Kansas Wesleyan comes to town. The Coyotes tied a school record with 17 3-pointers when the teams met earlier this season in Salina. Mac and KW are tied in the KCAC standings at 7-6.
Brown also contributed on the offensive end by averaging 13.5 points a game and is currently third in the KCAC in scoring at 15.1 points a game. She’s second in steals (2.09), second in free throw percentage (84) and has taken more attempts and has more makes than anybody in the KCAC (133 of 159).
