It was a rough day for McPherson’s seventh-grade boys here Monday.
The Bullpup A-team lost 54-20 to Andover. Eli Pyle’s seven points were tops.
“We ran into a buzzsaw tonight,” MMS coach Tim Hein said. “Andover is really good. They outsized us at every position, but they also pressured the ball hard and gave tremendous effort on defense. And seldom did they take a bad shot from the field. We can sure learn some lessons from them. Our kids competed hard though. Eli Pyle shot the ball well tonight and Adam Elliott gave us an offensive spark off the bench.”
The loss dropped the Bullpups to 6-5.
The B-team also is 6-5 after being edged, 32-29. Elliott’s 10 points led the scoring.
“Elliott continued with his offensive display putting up 10 points in the first half,” Hein said. “The B-team overcame a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to make an almost spectacular comeback. (Quincy) Gerbrandt’s last second 3-point attempt just fell short. They really fought hard and showed their coachability tonight. Dakota Istas battled like a man on the boards and Tate Brewer played some tough defense. This team has really improved.”
The Bullpups play Thursday at Valley Center.
