ANDOVER — McPherson’s seventh-grade girls stayed perfect on the season Monday by sweeping Andover as both teams are now 11-0.
The Bullpup A-team sped to a 24-8 halftime lead before settling for a 30-23 victory behind nine points by Grace Pyle.
“I was very proud of the toughness we showed in what was by far our closest game this season,” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “It was a very physical game and our girls didn't back down. We jumped on them early, but then we got a little tentative and struggled to score against them in the second half. Our girls held tough and kept fighting until the end. It was a nice challenge for us and I thought we learned a lot about our team tonight.”
The B-team had no trouble in winning its 11th straight as Alexa Bell scored 14 points and Shelby Yowell added 11 in a 31-12 victory.
“The girls played really good defense and turned it into some easy baskets,” MMS coach Grant Myers said. “Although we didn't shoot it real well, we did a good job running our offenses. The girls just keep getting better.”
MMS is home on Thursday to take on Valley Center.
