ANDOVER — The defense never rested for the McPherson eighth-grade girls on Monday.

The Bullpups totally locked down Andover for a 35-3 victory to improve to 10-1 on the season.

MMS was paced by Andrea Sweat with 11 points, while Payton Johnson and Cassie Cooks scored six apiece.

“The A-team did not play our best on offense the first half, but the second half we got out into transition and made plays,” MMS coach Jay Crawford said. “Our defense was active, we have gotten better at keeping the ball out of the paint, which makes it difficult for teams to score on us because of our length.”

The B-team also is 10-1 after also putting on a defensive clinic, 28-2. Kaliah Tice sparked the Bullpups with 10 points and Avery Mayfield scored seven.

“Our B-team got off to a good start in the first quarter and the fourth quarter on the offensive end,” Crawford said. “Our defense was really good all game. They played with good effort, I was glad to see us compete and try to make plays for each other.”

MMS hosts Valley Center on Thursday.

MMS A (35) — Strathman 2, Schieferecke 2, Pham 4, Mayfield 4, Cooks 6, Johnson 6, Sweat 11.

MMS B (28) — Collins 1, Sweat 2, Johnson 2, Schieferecke 2, Pham 2, Carlson 2, Maytfield 7, Tice 10.
