GREAT BEND — Moundridge’s once-beaten girls had a push from St. John for a half on Tuesday, but dominated the second half for a 57-35 victory in the first round of the Hilltop Classic.

Moundridge led only 23-20 at the half, but sped away from the Tigers with an 18-7 third quarter and continued to roll in the final period with a 16-8 advantage.

Ashley Holler and Bethany Stucky both poured in 20 points for the Wildcats. Stucky made 9 of 16 shots, while Holler was 7 of 13. Both players had seven rebounds to tie for the team lead.

Moundridge will play Wichita Prep Life at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. A potential game with No. 1-ranked Central Plains would be on Friday, though Prep Life is undefeated on the season after routing Macksville 74-17 in its opener on Tuesday.
