The Lindsborg City Council has approved a measure to forgive over $100,000 in debt owed to the city by Bethany College.

The Salina Journal reports the council made the move at the Jan. 18 meeting, forgiving $114,346 owed by Bethany for electrical work done eight years ago. The college had been paying around $16,000 a year toward the debt.

The council also approved a $10,000 scholarship package that will allow five Smoky Valley High School graduates to attend Bethany in 2016 and 2017, as well as free usage of the J.O. Sundstrom Conference Center twice a year.
