GREAT BEND — The highly anticipated Moundridge-Central Plains girls basketball showdown will have to wait for another day.
Life Prep Academy of Wichita spoiled the dream matchup by knocking off the Wildcats 47-42 on Thursday in the semifinals of the Hilltop Classic. Moundridge and Central Plains met for the 2A state title last year as well as the championship game of this tournament.
The Fire is now 10-0 and will play Central Plains in the finals. Moundridge, losing for only the second time this season, plays for third tonight against Ness City, with game time 6:30 p.m.
All went well for the Wildcats early, as they sprinted to a 16-6 first-quarter lead. But Prep Life outscored them 29-17 over the next two quarters.
Ashley Holler’s 19 points led the Wildcats. Bethany Stucky had a monster game off the glass with 13 rebounds. MHS managed just 12 of 42 from the field, with Holler making seven of the field goals.
