Shawnee Mission South struggled mightily at the free throw line Saturday in the fifth-place game of the Mid America Classic against Hays.

But stepping out further, the Raiders knocked down 10 of 18 3-pointers and cruised to a 63-45 victory.

The Raiders, who entered the Classic with just a 2-8 record, finished the three-day event 2-1 as it apparently was miscast as a No. 8 seed.

Clara Sitas, who had scored 11 total points in the first two games, matched that total in the first half to give the Raiders a 28-22 lead. They lit it up from 3-point by going 6 of 12 in the first 16 minutes after having made only four treys in the first two rounds.

Madi McAvoy took over in the second half, scoring 16 of her game-high 24 points and was 4 of 7 from beyond the arc. Sitas finished with 16. The Raiders also shot it well from the field, making 21 of 39.

Talyn Kleweno led Hays with 10 points.
