WICHITA — Seniors Ashton Bruner and Bailey Brown did all they could, but it wasn’t enough Saturday as the McPherson College women fell to Friends 71-62 at The Garvey Center.

Bruner was 8 of 11 from the field and 6 of 8 from the line for 22 points, while Brown’s 18-point performance was sparked by her 10-of-14 effort from the line.

But the other Bulldogs managed only 22 points as the Bulldogs dipped back under the .500 mark in the KCAC at 7-8 and are 10-15 overall.

Ericka Torres came off the bench to pour in 20 points for Friends, including six 3-pointers. Friends was missing possible KCAC Player of the Year Shann Sellers, but the Falcons’ first-half defense was the key as Mac scored only 23 points before playing Friends to an even 39-39 in the second half.

Mac hosts surging Bethany College on Thursday. The Swedes won the first meeting in Lindsborg.

Mac (62) — Bruner 22, Brown 18, Allen 8, S. Smart 1, Racette 8, G. Smart 5.

Friends (71) — Quiroz 9, Britton 9, Smith 4, Justice 3, Booker 2, Torres 20, Sanders 6, Bouvia 6, Holtz 5, Grant 3, Harris 2, Youman 2.

• FRIENDS MEN 80, MAC 70 — The Bulldogs traditionally have played well at The Garvey Center.

Friends, though, controlled the game from the outset as the Bulldogs fell to 3-12 in the KCAC and 7-18 overall.

Chris Crook netted 16 points to lead Mac, and Dee Roberts and DeAndre Henson came off the bench for 13 and 12, respectively. Also off the bench, Ryan O’Hara pounded the glass with 10 rebounds.

As usual, Friends lit it up from 3-point as that’s the key to their offense. Toby Baxter made 5 of 6 on his way to 25 points and as a team the Falcons drained 11 of 22. Chris Singhateh added 14 points, Kaleb Ratlif scored 12 and Brandon Johnson chipped in with 11.
