MAIZE — McPherson’s eighth-grade girls completed a tremendous regular season with two impressive victories over Maize on Monday.
The A-team, powered by Andrea Sweat’s 22 points, blasted its way to a 43-10 victory to head into postseason play with a 12-1 record.
“We scored well in the second and third quarter because our defense got us out in the open court,” MMS coach Jay Crawford said. “Our length bothered them all night. The girls played hard and did a great job of not looking at the score and continued to do the things we work on in practice, which is always nice to see.”
The Bullpups begin tournament play on Saturday at Derby, playing Derby North.
The B-team completed its season with a 12-1 record with a 39-16 decision. Peyton Johnson topped the scoring with 10 points.
“The B-team got off to a great first quarter by playing very good trapping defense,” Crawford said. “The girls really anticipated well where the ball was going coming out of our traps. They came out after the half and continued playing well. This team has improved so much over the season. I am so proud of the effort they gave throughout their season.”
There is no B-tournament. The only loss for the Bullpups came to Hutchinson by five points.
