MAIZE — McPherson’s seventh-grade girls completed a pair of 13-0 regular basketball seasons on Monday by crushing Maize twice.
The A-team led 20-6 at the half and went on for a 40-18 victory. Kassidy Beam led the scoring with 11 points as eight players in all marked.
“We finished the regular season with a good team win,” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “The second and third quarter we started making smarter passes and sharing the ball better. Just like every game this season, I was proud of the girls for their defensive effort tonight.”
The Bullpups will play Tuesday in Derby in the first round of the postseason tournament against either Salina Lakewood or Salina South.
The B-team led 12-1 after a quarter and motored to a 40-8 rout. Shelby Yowell’s 12 points led the way as the team finished its season since there’s no B-tourney.
“The girls again played great defense, passed the ball well and made some very good basketball plays out of our offenses,” MMS coach Grant Myers said. “Wow, what a great group of girls to coach. I am very privileged to have coached this group.”
