CANTON — It was a game for the ages for Canton-Galva senior Cassidy Enns.
Conjuring up days of the Wedel sisters of 30 years ago, the Eagles’ star center poured in a career-high 42 points Tuesday to lead C-G to a 62-52 victory over Ell-Saline.
Enns piled up 15 field goals and was 12 of 15 at the foul line. She scored 27 of the Eagles’ 30 points in the second half.
• CANTON-GALVA BOYS 42, ELL-SALINE 34 — Travis Unruh made 8 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter to secure the Eagles’ victory.
He scored 17 points in the game and completed the double-double with 12 rebounds and also found time to dish off for four assists.
The game got off to a crawling start, 4-3 after a quarter. It was still just 12-11 at the half with the Cardinals out front. C-G turned the tide with a 15-8 third quarter.
“The first half was hard to watch,” C-G coach Shane Duncan said. “We made poor decisions. We were soft on the glass. We weren't attacking offensively. Fortunately we were only down one.”
Unruh and Hunter Pearson stepped up for the Eagles to lead the charge.
“Unruh recovered from a poor first half to have a really good second half,” Duncan said. “He had 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists after the break. Hunter Pearson played his best game of the year. He was physical in the paint and aggressive offensively.”
