The Marion Airport was one of a dozen awarded with Kansas Aiport Improvement Program Funding through the Kansas Department of Transportation.

KDOT announced Thursday that Marion was awarded $25,000 to install a credit card reader for 24-hour fueling as part of Phase one of the KAIP funding. The largest award went to Fredonia, which will use its $635,280 to widen the runway.

A total of $2 million was awarded by KDOT for fiscal year 2017, with the airport sponsors required to pay a minimum of five percent of the total project cost.

A second wave of KAIP funding will be announced at a later date.
