It’s been a much-needed break for McPherson High’s wrestling team.

After a stretch of weeks where it wrestled a Thursday dual and then a weekend tournament, the Bullpups have been off all week resting and healing.

They return to action Friday and Saturday in the Rose Hill Invitational.

“It’s a very tough tournament with 24 teams,” MHS coach Doug Kretzer said. “This is the last true tune-up prior to regionals.”

Kretzer said that 106-pounder EJ Kretzer and 113-pounder Seth Morgan are returning to practice today after being sidelined. The Bullpups won’t have 138-pounder Scott Radke and 220-pounder Alex Grennan this weekend. “That will give some young guys the opportunity to see the varsity level for the first time,” Doug Kretzer said.

The action begins at 11 a.m. Friday.

Teams scheduled to compete are Andale, Andover, Andover Central, Augusta, Derby, El Dorado, Hutchinson, Maize South, Mulvane, Salina Central, Valley Center, Wellington, Winfield, Smoky Valley, Larned, Jayhawk Linn, Independence, Hays, Fort Scott, Concordia, Chanute, Caney Valley, Bonner Springs and Baldwin.

The tournament resumes at 10 a.m. Saturday.

MHS has a dual next Thursday at El Dorado, which will be for the AVCTL Division III title. That wraps up the regular season.
