LINDSBORG — Smoky Valley’s basketball teams put up good fights against Hesston on Friday, but it was the Swathers who came away with a pair of wins.
The Viking girls, who had been having all kinds of offensive problems in recent games, were able to stay within 50-36 of the defending Class 3A state champions.
Hesston was never in any serious trouble, leading by nine at the half and gradually pulled away.
Smoky had no answer for Kaily Jo Ince and Cami Richardson as they scored 19 and 18 points, respectively. Katie Bellah led the Vikings with 13.
The Swather boys perhaps got more than expected from the Vikings. Hesston held off Smoky, 54-46.
The loss spoiled a nice 20-point game by Nick Reinert. Scott Duerksen scored 14 for the Swathers and Garrett Roth added 11.
