Jr. Eagles take 3rd in tourney

ELYRIA — Elyria Christian Junior High’s boys finished their basketball season Saturday by taking third place in the Wheat State League Tournament.

The Junior Eagles clipped Peabody 44-43 after being down by nine points in the third quarter.

Josef Hobson had a career game with 28 points.

In the semifinals, the Junior Eagles had lost to Goessel 35-31. Hobson tallied 11 points to lead the way. Elyria was down 12-5 after a quarter and drew within one by half at 16-15. Goessel opened up a five-point lead after three quarters.

“These kids never gave up,” ECS coach Ernie Heikes said. “They fought hard all day. When our opponent would pull away, they would fight back every time. Josef Hobson was a big force with 28 points. I'm so proud of these boys.”
