Central Christian College’s softball team opened its season in bone-chilling conditions here Tuesday with a split against Langston University of Oklahoma.

Kasi Kraus pitched the Lady Tigers to a 6-4 victory in the first game. She scattered nine hits and fanned five.

Morgan Hildebrandt had the big hit, a homer, while Sydney Nelson was 3 for 4. Mandy Jacques also had three hits and Kraus helped her own cause with two. Constance Baker had a big two-run pinch hit.

Langston won Game 2, 12-8. CCC was down 7-0 before getting back in the game with five runs in the fourth inning.

Nelson had a monster game with three hits and four RBIs. Jacques had another three-hit game, while Kraus had two hits and two RBIs. Kristen Hall had two hits as CCC lost despite collecting 14 safeties.

Jacques took the loss.

“As hard as this team has been working towards the opening day, I was hoping that they would see and feel a payoff from their dedication and perseverance,” new CCC coach Mark Ritchhart said. “It was awesome to witness their determination to succeed no matter the score. They never gave up, their joy was evident whether they were playing or not and they shared God with their opponents and fans through excellent effort, attitude and belief. I am so proud of them and can't wait to teach them more.”

Central is off until Feb. 19 when it hosts Northwestern College, weather permitting.
