DERBY — McPherson’s seventh-grade boys couldn’t complete a Cinderella story on Thursday, losing to Salina Lakewood 41-34 in the championship game of the Pioneer League Tournament.
MMS had entered the event as the No. 4 seed. It finished with a 10-6 record.
Jayton Alexander’s 10 points led the way.
“Lakewood knocked down some perimeter shots in the second half to pull away,” MMS coach Tim Hein said. “Their size is their strength. We did an admirable job fighting against that though. Making it to the championship game was quite an accomplishment for our team. This group showed improvement all season long. If they all commit to improving their individual skill sets and buying into the Bullpup program, they have a bright future ahead of them in the Roundhouse.”
