What a weekend for the Central Christian College baseball team and what a start to the season.
The Tigers took both ends of a doubleheader here Saturday from Hannibal-LaGrange College to complete a three-game sweep, improving to 7-3 on the season. The Tigers nearly have equaled last year’s victory total in the infant stages of the season as they were 9-45 last year.
Central captured Game 1 4-3, scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally for the victory. Kelby Landon had two hits to lead CCC, while Doug Gove had a strong game on the mound, scattering five hits as the Tigers’ pitching has been strong so far.
The nightcap was another low-scoring game that ended in thrilling fashion as the Tigers won 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh as pinch-runner Clayton Cramer scored on a wild throw. Nate Patterson had started the winning surge with a single.
Patterson led Central by collecting three hits, while Zane Howard was 2 for 2. Alan Barker started, but it was three innings of shutout relief by Bryan Scott that netted him the win.
Central is scheduled to host Manhattan Christian on Friday and Saturday, both dates being doubleheaders.
