Central Christian College’s baseball team exceeded last year’s victory total in completing a four-game sweep of Manhattan Christian here Saturday.
The red-hot Tigers, 9-45 last season, are now 11-3 after 5-4 and 3-2 victories over the Thunder.
In the opener the Tigers were in dire straits, but rallied for three runs in the sixth inning to pull out the victory. Jaime Romeu, Mario Rivera and Graham Greenbeck all had two hits, with Doug Gove going the distance to earn the win, striking out nine.
Game 2 was just as tight as the Tigers won in dramatic walk-off fashion with a run in the bottom of the seventh on a pinch-hit single by Kenny Cordova, which plated pinch-runner Caleb Gorman.
Rivera had two more hits. Keaton Snyder gave Central yet another top-notch pitching performance by spacing seven hits over seven innings.
“We had a good weekend and are looking forward to getting back on the practice field next week to continue to work to get better each day,” CCC coach Derk Kramer said.
The Tigers and crosstown rival McPherson College hook up at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Tiger Stadium, formerly Light Capital Diamond.
