MHS, SV wrestlers make state

LINDSBORG — McPherson High’s Austin Eldredge and Kaleb Jost will enter the Class 4A State Wrestling Meet on Friday in Salina as high seeds after winning regional titles on Saturday.

Eldredge won the 132-pound class by technical fall over Colby’s Tanner Elias, while Jost pinned Smoky Valley’s Allan Wampler in the second period. Jost pinned all four of his opponents during the weekend.

Also qualifying for state were Cole Kretzer at 120 (fourth), Brynton Crews at 126 (fourth) and Ty Goss at 285 (third).

The Bullpups used a big second day to finish in fourth place with 117 1/2 points, trailing the state’s No. 1-ranked team Colby (197), Abilene (178) and Goodland (156 1/2). Smoky Valley was sixth with 91. 

The Vikings’ Austin Lustfield was the 126-pound champion with a 3-1 decision over Goodland’s Tristan Cooper, while Austin Golden was second at 145, losing 12-2 in the finals to Aj Burehniede of Rock Reek. The Vikings’ Beck Elliott was third at 170 to also advance.
