McPherson College’s women had a great chance at a softball sweep here Sunday, but couldn’t seal the deal.

After run-ruling Midland University of Nebraska 9-1 in the first game, the second game went extra innings before the Warriors prevailed, 5-4.

The first game may have been Mac’s best of the year. Sydney Lang twirled a two-hitter and the Bulldogs erupted for a season-high 17 hits, led by Samantha Harrity (3 for 4), Katie Holmes (3 for 4) and Azaria Romero (3 for 3, two RBIs).

In the second game, the teams were tied at 3-all after three innings and then the game was scoreless until the eighth when Midland pushed across two runs. Mac did rally for one in the bottom of the inning, but the uprising finally fizzled.

Emily Davis had two hits for Mac and eight other players had one each. Lang took the loss in relief of Katie Usdansky.

The Bulldogs are now 2-7. They play Saturday at Baker University.
