WICHITA — McPherson High’s bowling team is hoping to carry over the momentum of Friday’s AVCTL Championships to the regional this week as both the boys and girls were crowned league champions.
The MHS boys put up a huge number, 2,565, in winning the title. Clayton Ouellette had games of 249-216-205 for a 670 and a championship performance. Jeff Reed was third (201-226-206-633) and Carl Frazier also broke 600 (196-181-234-611) for fifth.
Other MHS scores were Mathew Stiggins (223-156-209-588), KC Becker (192-183-172-547) and Talin Goebel (212-201-129-542).
The JV boys also won the title with a 2,086. Devin Hartley was immense with a 238-190-199-624 to take the crown. Other scores were Michael Polasek (200-173-169-542), Austin Stiggins (177-144-170-491), Ben Houston (164-148-117-429), Mathew Gesaman (129-139-101-369) and Trey Hett (139-102-113-355).
League champion Ashley LaSalle (189-236-163-588) led the Bullpup girls, while Alexis Kieffer (158-162-207-527) was third and Bailey Holton (178-160-183-521) was fourth.
Other MHS scores were Anna Young (113-155-180-448), Brooke Miller (156-148-131-435) and Maysan Groote (111-107-112-330).
The JV girls were third, led by Amanda Miller (134-140-127-401). Other scores were Kaylnn Chick (118-149-125-392), Randie Baker (102-131-101-344), Caitlyn Fortner (83-81-99-263) and Kimiko Bullis (85-60-81-226).
"It was a good day," MHS coach Herb Halinski said. "They did a good job. Made most of their spares and the pins just fell. Was really proud of Clayton. He kept up with the moves and made good shots all day. Ashley did a good job. Her hip has been real sore lately and she just bowled good."
The regional is scheduled for Thursday at Salina, the boys bowling at 10 a.m., with the girls to follow.
