Round 1 of intracity college baseball bragging rights went to McPherson College on Tuesday as the Bulldogs cooled off what had been the red-hot Central Christian College Tigers, 11-2.
CCC had entered the game with an 11-3 record. The two schools meet two more times later in the season.
The Bulldogs were led by Reily Martin, Jackson Goodmiller and Lucas Giesey with two RBIs apiece. Goodmiller had two hits.
Central’s Graham Greenbeck, Zane Howard and Shomari Cann all had two hits.
Colter Streck worked the first five innings to pick up the win, allowing just one run. Four Bulldog relievers pitched an inning each to complete the nine-inning game.
Alan Barker took the loss, but an error damaged him as the Bulldogs scored eight runs in the second inning. While he allowed seven runs before departing early, only one was earned.
The Bulldogs, now 6-5, host Nebraska Wesleyan for two games on Saturday, then the teams play a single game on Sunday. The games Saturday are at Grant Complex, the games Sunday at Light Capital Diamond.
The 11-4 Tigers have a tough task this weekend with four games against highly regarded Morningside College. Friday’s games begin at 1 p.m., Saturday’s two games start at noon.
