State wrestling update: Jost, Lustfield in semis

SALINA — McPherson High’s Kaleb Jost has won his first two matches at the Class 4A State Wrestling Tournament today at the Bicentennial Center to advance to tonight’s semifinals.

Jost has breezed so far, winning by a fall and a 14-4 major decision. He is matched against pre-tournament favorite Curtis Rylant of Clearwater in the semis, who barely won his second-round match 3-2. Rylant is 38-1 on the season.

MHS’ Austin Eldredge won his first match at 132 by a technical fall, but lost in the second round, 4-1. He still can come back through and finish as high as third.

Ty Goss, expected to be a major contender at 285, suffered a heartbreaking loss in overtime in his first-round match.

Cole Kretzer, at 120, lost his first match and Brynton Crews, at 126, also lost his first match.

Smoky Valley’s Austin Lustfield, at 126, won his first two matches to advance to the semifinals. The Vikes’ Austin Golden lost his first match at 145, Beck Elliott lost his 170 opener and Allan Wampler also was defeated in the first round.
