BURRTON — A 30-9 second-quarter explosion propelled the Elyria Christian School boys to a 69-42 rout of Stafford on Monday in the opening round of the Burrton Class 1A Division II sub-state.
It was just 14-13 after a quarter before the Eagles jump-started their offense as they scored 51 points over the middle two quarters.
“I was very pleased with our pressure defense and we were able to turn them over, getting some easy shots,” ECS coach Ben Starburg said. “We shared the ball well and played well as a team. It was truly a team effort.”
Aidan Fields scored 24 points, including nine in both the second and third quarters. Tyler Bhiessen scored 11 of his 19 during the huge second quarter. Caleb Froese chipped in with 11.
Elyria plays Chase on Thursday, with the time not yet announced.
