Hesston boys easily make semifinals

HESSTON — The Hesston boys demolished Remington 66-30 on Monday in the first round of the Halstead Class 3A sub-state.

The Swathers, now 19-2 and the No. 1 seed, doubled the Broncos 22-11 in the second quarter to open up a 36-15 halftime advantage.

Zach Esau fired in 23 points, including 8 of 8 at the line, to lead the Swathers and Scott Duerksen chipped in with 12.

Hesston plays at 6 p.m. Thursday against Eureka, which outlasted Marion 48-40 in Monday’s first round. The action shifts to Halstead for the final two rounds.

Perhaps lurking is 18-3 Southeast of Saline, which outscored Trinity Catholic 104-83 in a wild game on Monday.
