BETHANY, Oka. — McPherson College’s baseball team has set a school record for most non-conference wins in a season.

By splitting road games Tuesday with Southwestern Christian University, the Bulldogs are now 9-7 in pre-KCAC play. Southwestern Christian had entered the day a sparkling 11-1.

The Bulldogs moved three games clear of .500 in the opener with a 2-1 victory behind another solid pitching performance by Tyler Bailey.

Kyle McDonald, named preseason first-team All-KCAC earlier in the day, pounded a home run for Mac. The Bulldogs eventually won the game in the third inning on a sac fly by Dylan Fontenot.

Blake Ware came on in relief to nail it down for Bailey, who worked six strong innings and did not walk a batter while fanning five.

Mac had eight hits in the second game, but lost 6-1.

Reily Martin had an RBI triple to score Trent Smith with the only run. Cameron Oram took the loss.

KCAC play begins this weekend as York College comes to McPherson for a doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s games are at Grant Complex, Sunday’s at Light Capital Diamond. The Saturday game has a 2 p.m. start, Sunday’s play begins at 1:00.
