BURRTON — The basketball season came to an end for the Elyria Christian School boys on Thursday, as they were outlasted 60-49 by Chase in the Class 1A Division II sub-state semifinals.

A slow start doomed the Eagles, who were down 29-15 at halftime. They actually outscored the Kats by three points in the second half.

Tyler Thiessen scored 14 points to lead the Eagles and Aidan Fields added 11. Elyria started one of the youngest teams in the state this year, including two freshmen and two sophomores.

“We struggled offensively early, scoring only 15 in the first half,” ECS coach Ben Starburg said. “We battled back in the second half, cutting the lead to six at 37-31, with 10 points from Tyler Thiessen in the third. But Chase answered back with a two and a 3-pointer of their own, and they held us off the rest of the way.”

The Eagles ended the year 7-15.
