CLAY CENTER — Smoky Valley’s boys are one victory away from making state.

The Vikings turned in a solid defensive effort on Friday to shackle Chapman for a 52-38 victory. They will face top-seed Concordia at 7:30 p.m. Saturday for the Class 4A Division II sub-state title.

It was a close game for a half, 26-23, but Smoky started to assume command in the third quarter to ring up a 10-point lead. Chapman hurt itself at the line in the fourth quarter, missing all six of its attempts.

Nick Reinert led the Vikings with 14 points, one more than Trey Schneider. The Vikings will take a 9-12 record into Saturday’s title game.
