York College is new to KCAC baseball this season and it’s evident the Panthers are going to be a major player in the race.
The Panthers, who received some votes in the recent national poll, completed a four-game sweep of McPherson College on Sunday at windy Light Capital Diamond with a wild 23-16 victory in Game 1 and then a 13-2 triumph in Game 2 as the wind was blowing out, turning the stadium into a band box.
The wind was really howling in Game 1 as a total of 10 home runs were hit, four by the Bulldogs. Mac’s Dylan Klava went yard twice and drove in six runs, while Matt Bryan and Dylan Fontenot also took it out of the park.
The Panthers countered with six home runs, three of them by Nick Carney, who was 6 for 6 in the game with seven RBIs.
York clubbed five more homers in Game 2, all by different players. This time the Bulldogs couldn’t keep pace, with Dylan Fontenot and Evan Willow collecting two hits apiece.
Mac, now 9-11 overall, goes to Ottawa next weekend for a four-game KCAC series.
