Baseball Tigers edged by Sterling

STERLING — Sterling College pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to come away with a 3-2 victory over Central Christian College on Tuesday in a single, nine-inning baseball game.

The Warriors, the No. 20 team in the country, scored two runs in the first inning before being blanked until the eighth. The Tigers scored their two runs in the third.

Central was held to five hits, all singles.

CCC’s Reggie Thomas pitched easily his best game of the season, going 7 1/3 innings. He walked three and fanned two while throwing under 100 pitches.

The loss was the 10th straight for Central after an 11-3 start. The Tigers are on the road this weekend for a three-game series against Evangel College. A single game will be played Friday, followed by a twinbill on Saturday.
